About Me
My initial woodwork training was in boatbuilding: I studied at the famous International Boatbuilding Training College in Lowestoft - where I learned traditional woodworking skills and a respect for work that is strong, beautiful, and fit for purpose - qualities which I aim to integrate into everything I make. On leaving college I did work ranging from boat repairs and fitting out narrow boats to garden joinery and fine furniture making. Before setting up my own workshop in Wales I was based for a while at "Wood Glorious Wood", a gallery and shared workshop in the village of Hartland in North Devon. Here I worked alongside, and learnt from, wood workers from various different backgrounds.
Before working with wood professionally, I made furniture for fun, while earning my living as a musician and teacher. Through hours of practicing the keyboard music of JS Bach I gained a dexterity of hand that serves me well as a furniture maker - and learned the important lesson that, in Bach's words, "God lives in the details".
