An Oak Dresser

My latest piece is a contemporary oak dresser which is now finished and ready to be delivered to the clients.  The bottom half is for storage while above it is a display space.

Inside are display shelves supported on moveable custom-made walnut pins.  The central divider splits the space while giving added rigidity to the structure.  This allowed for a simple, cleaner construction and more flexible display options.

The single drawer is divided into two visually, but three internally, resolving the conflicting demands of aesthetics and practicality!

I really like how you left out any horizontal muntins, leaving just the shelves themselves to do that framing.

Thanks for that! I find that muntins can cause slight visual confusion if not co-ordinated with the shelves - and with moveable shelves this is, of course, impossible to control. An added bonus of getting rid of muntins altogether is that it gives the owner of the piece some control over how it looks - they can place and rearrange these horizontal elements as they like. This is particularly nice in something like a display cabinet which is quite a personal thing....

A very nice piece, Marcus. I particularly like your solution with the drawer - might pinch that idea some time ;-)

Cheers
