Marcus Sly - Furniture Making and Design

In the last couple of days I've been making the bureau doors, which is the last job apart from a few coats of oil.  I spent a fair time playing around with different proportions for the frames,trying to balance the row of three below with the row of four above.  Finally I came up with proportions that seem right, and added a double arch at the top, which gives the whole bureau a nice lift.

Here's a picture of the frames roughly in place.  The panels will be of solid oak.  I was going to use pippy oak, but found that this was "too much".  The "busyness" of pippy oak seemed to take something away from the simple feel without adding anything much.
